Randi Glazer Answers – Is Drinking Wine as Good as Working Out?

Studies show that grapes contain resveratrol, which is an ingredient that has been found to improve the bodily function of the heart, muscles, and bones. The same levels of bodily function can also be seen when exercising. Resveratrol is an antioxidant that is produced by plants to protect against environmental stresses. Resveratrol is also credited with protecting against heart diseases.

Additional tests have been done on resveratrol to determine if this antioxidant does actual help with diabetes and heart conditions. The results are not in yet, but if the tests are positive it means that people can drink red wine to improve their health. It is known that red wine can promote longer lives if drank in moderation.

Resveratrol is found in the seeds, skins, and stems of grapes. You can also purchase resveratrol in pill or capsule form. Peanuts, blueberries, and cranberries also contain resveratrol and may provide the same benefits as red wine supposedly does. 1000mg/day is the recommended daily dosage of resveratrol and a resveratrol gum is being produced that provide users the proper daily dosage.

There is no alternative to regular exercise. Resveratrol is merely a supplement but does not provide the many other benefits that regular exercise does. Exercise is healthy for the body and the mind.
